Of Mice and Mushrooms

An exhibition in collaboration with the Abney Park Trust.

September 2011

A variety of sculptures involving mice and mushrooms will be on display throughout the cemetery; some reflecting the area around them, others simply flights of fancy.  Each sculpture will provide hints directing the viewer to the next, leading to a lovely walk through the park.

Abney Park is one of my favorite parts of Stoke Newington.  Originally one of the ‘magnificent seven’ garden cemeteries of London, it is now primarily a memorial park and a nature reserve.  It has equal measures of charm, solemnity, wildness, order, memory and change.  My hope with this exhibition is to add a bit of whimsy to the mix, while still being respectful of the history and emotions surrounding this location.
